UNITAR and HP Bring Industry Expertise and AI Learning to Japan-Funded Programme for African Youth and Women
28 August 2026, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is collaborating with HP Inc. to strengthen practical learning on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies for young professionals and women participating in a Japan-funded capacity development programme for sub-Saharan Africa.
The collaboration supports the Digital Intelligence: Business Technology & AI Literacy component of the Phase I for the programme “Empowering Youth and Women Amid Economic Instability: Enhancing Public-Private Partnership Between Japan and Africa for Sub-Saharan African Countries, Addressing Urgent Challenges, and Promoting TICAD9,” funded by the Government and People of Japan. The programme aims to strengthen connections between African and Japanese innovation ecosystems and equip a new generation of entrepreneurs and changemakers to create sustainable economic value.
From August 2026 to February 2027, the programme will engage more than 2,000 young professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators and practitioners from 11 Anglophone sub-Saharan African countries. It aims to strengthen participants’ capacities to develop viable businesses, innovative solutions and partnership-ready initiatives while responding to economic and social challenges across the region.
